The NUTCRACKER at Wilmington's historic
Playhouse on Rodney Square

Wilmington's very own annual Christmas tradition at the Playhouse turns 51!  The complete Nutcracker experience with a full orchestra and chorus, world class Principal Dancers, 50 young dancers, an enchanting snow scene, and a one-horse open sleigh. This holiday season, you and your loved ones will be treated to something very special, a performance that lifts your holiday spirit and a wondrous experience that evokes joy and happiness to kids of all ages.

The Nutcracker follows the story of young Clara on Christmas night as she is tangled in a battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, and travels through the Land of Sweets. Snowflakes become dancing maidens. Hot Chocolate, Mandarin Tea, Arabian Coffee, Marzipan, and Mother Ginger and her children perform for Clara's entertainment. With the breathtakingly beautiful dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, Clara's fairytale adventure concludes as she awakens next morning under the Christmas tree.

All Wilmington Ballet students ages six and up are eligible to participate in the Nutcracker.  This year's production will feature professional dancers from Boston Ballet as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier, the Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble and a live orchestra and chorus.
